Inspiring international entrepreneurship exchange Porto Alegre and Waterloo

A global connection between two amazing entrepreneurial ecosystems.

People are the key element to connect the creative economy

Promoting the creative economy, entrepreneurship and closer relationship between Brazil and Canada, these are some of the objectives of Cafepreneur, a monthly meeting that brings together Brazilian entrepreneurs and influencers who are in Canada, always bringing as a guest people connected to the entrepreneurship ecosystem and innovation in the Brazil-Canada market.

In its third edition, the Cafe was attended by Rafael Prikladnicki, director of the Scientific and Technological Park at PUCRS - TECNOPUC. The technology park stimulates and incentive research and innovation through a simultaneous action between academia, private institutions and government. Currently, the park hosts 130 organizations, and more than 6.3 thousand jobs. Prikladnicki spoke about his experience with entrepreneurship and his intention to make TECNOPUC better known to Canadian companies.

"Our goal is that in the near future the city of Porto Alegre, where we are based, be recognized as a reference in technology and entrepreneurship. It would be gratifying to have Canadian companies participating with us in this endeavour " - Rafael Prickladnicki

Cafepreneur is an initiative of Luis Barrionuevo, entrepreneur who works with education for entrepreneurship, mentoring and business coaching, and international business consulting services. His company, IDEALITY, helps entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into reality.

“It all started with an informal chat at a coffee in Waterloo, and along with some friends we decided to have a coffee a month and share new experiences in entrepreneurship and social innovation.” - Luis Barrionuevo

The simple idea of joining people with entrepreneurial initiatives in this Brazil-Canada relationship, and creating real connections and opportunities, has an essential objective: Contribute to the Brazilian community of entrepreneurs interested in Canada.

The fact that Cafepreneur is itinerant allows the participation of new people in each edition. The Waterloo-Toronto corridor in Ontario in Canada is known as the Northern Silicon Valley and has more than 10,000 startups. In Waterloo region, the preferred place for Cafepreneur, there is a large concentration of Brazilians and already has more than 1,100 new companies, that is, more than two startups for every 1,000 inhabitants. Density and collaborative competition is one of the secrets of this place.
